Identifying Unknowns: A Variation of Qualitative Analysis

Effluent waters from mines often times contain many dissolved metals which need to be removed before the water can be released.  In order to clean the water up, we need to know exactly what metals are present in the effluent waters.  This experiment is designed to guide students through creating a table of observations for many different reactions with numerous metals, this will then be used as a comparison to determine what metals are present in an unknown solution.
